Get it Right First Time: The Best Underwear for Working Out

As anyone who’s ever tried jogging wearing full briefs will know, underwear matters when you’re working out. Pick right, and you’ll barely notice it even as it’s helping you out. Pick wrong, and it will make the whole experience one sweaty, clingy, itchy disaster. Want to get it right first time? Then follow this advice!

The first thing to check out on your potential work-out panties – whatever cut they are – is the elastic. Thick waistband? Legs look like they’re going to cut in? These should be the killer no-nos for many pairs of panties, as anything that sticks too firmly to one area of skin is probably going to start to itch. Nasty. This can be just as bad in non-VPL panties as ones that cut in too much, so watch out!

The next thing you want to think about is how breathable they’ll be. Many people think that just because there’s less fabric on a thong, it’ll be more comfortable – not so. A pair of panties that’s slightly loose and lets the air circulate is always going to be a better bet, as it won’t get so sweaty so quickly. Just check out the underwear that professional sportswomen wear – athletics and swimming aside, you’ll not find much skimpy or tight, as those things simply stick.

So, not too little fabric – but not too much either! Or rather not too much in the wrong places. Panties that cover your lower back are a little-publicised evil for ladies working out. It’s one spot that you perhaps wouldn’t expect to get so toasty, but it does! So give it as much breathability as possible – and don’t trap it in full briefs or French cut panties! (Of course, breathability is also to do with the fabric the panties are made of. Plain, unmixed cotton or specially engineered breathable fabrics are going to do a lot better than your average cheap synthetics, as well as feeling nicer on the skin! So that can be worth watching out for, as well as the cut.)

Well, in the end, what does that leave us with? The fuller coverage low-riding variety, in general; i.e. low-riding bikinis, hipsters and boyshorts. All will do for your workout, but if you have to choose one, choose the boyshort. Why? Because it clings that little bit less than the others, which ultimately is what’s going to make your workout most comfortable.

So there you have it: a shortlist and a winner! Hopefully that will get you thinking for your next workout. Choose your panties right, and make it a success!
